So here are the ingredients I use the most when I make my own cleaners.
Spray Bottles
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Dish Detergent
Tea Tree Oil (I buy mine at a health food store, but I have seen it at Walmart.)
Essential oil (optional, i sometimes use sweet orange, pictured above.)
I have seen people use things such as Ammonia, borax, and washing soda, but these are things that all need to be kept out of the hands of little ones. So for this reason I choose not to use them. The whole point for me to do this is to use something that is effective and I can keep in the cabinet without having to worry about kids drinking or having them get it on their hands. Now I have to admit I do have clorox wipes in the cabinet for that emergency bathroom experience. Those that have had any experience with kids knows what I am talking about. But for my other stuff the following recipes are what I use.
All Purpose Cleaner:
I mix about 1 1/2 cups vinegar with 1/2 cup water and a few drops of liquid dish detergent. I put it a spray bottle and use it for all my counters. It works great at cutting grease, but it does have a heavy smell of vinegar, but it goes away pretty quickly.
Antibacterial Spray:
I use a smaller spray bottle for this. I fill it with water and then put a few drops of tea tree oil in it. Every time you use it you need to shake it well to distribute the oil. I use this after I have cleaned the counters with the all purpose cleaner.
Window Cleaner:
For every 4 cups water add 1/3 cup vinegar. Put in a spray bottle and use like you would any commercial spray cleaner. You can also add your favorite essential oil to scent it if you like.
Your Own Febreeze:
I am obsessed with wanting my house to smell good, so this is a good economical way to make your own febreeze. In a clean spray bottle, place a couple tablespoons of your favorite liquid fabric softener. Then fill with water, leaving about an inch from space from the top. Gently shake, then use as you would febreeze.
Antibacterial Bathroom Cleaner:
Great for disinfecting the bathroom when your family has the flu!
1 cup baking soda
2 tbsp liquid soap
2 tsp tea tree essential oil
1 tsp peppermint essential oil
1 tbsp white vinegar (optional)
In a bowl, add baking soda then liquid soap. Mix well until the baking soda forms a paste. If it is still too crumbly, add slightly more liquid soap until it forms a paste, as some liquid soaps are more "liquidy" than others. Next, add essential oils, mixing well, then add vinegar.
To use, put a small amount on your bathroom sponge to scrub down your toilet seat, shower, bathtub, sink and counter. Rinse out your sponge, and go over it again with clean water.
I hope this is what people are looking for. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. And if you are looking for anything else let me know!
